Leather Jacket Grading and Size-Set Development
A jacket size range needs more than larger and smaller labels. If you are ordering one design in several sizes, we can work from your base size, finished measurements and intended wearers to develop the size progression. This page explains how grading affects body, sleeve, pocket and collar relationships, and what to review before the size mix becomes a wholesale order.

Size Development Around Your Customer
Relia supports custom jacket sizing for brands defining their own customer fit. Relia connects the base garment with the measurement chart and the requested size range, so grading decisions reflect the design and wearer rather than a generic size-name conversion.
A Chart Describes More than Size Labels
Grading distributes a size change across garment parts. Chest, shoulder, armhole, bicep and length do not have to grow by the same amount. A short work jacket also needs to retain its intended hem position as sizes increase. We use your base-size fit and target wearer to connect the grade rules to a consistent silhouette.
Grade the Garment as Connected Pattern Pieces
Grading adjusts related pattern points rather than scaling the entire jacket like a photograph. Relia reviews how chest growth connects with the armhole, sleeve width and shoulder, while body and sleeve lengths follow the intended size progression. Pocket and fastening locations also need proportion checks. A changed leather thickness or padded lining can affect the usable inside room even when the outside measurement chart is unchanged.
Identify the approved base size, measuring points and intended finished fit.
Define how related body and sleeve measurements progress between sizes.
Review pocket, collar and fastening proportions across the proposed range.
Use the agreed size-set scope to review the base and relevant end sizes before ordering.
The Extreme Sizes Deserve a Fit Review
A successful base size does not explain the entire range. Identify which additional sizes need sample review and what each should demonstrate. Keep the review focused on proportion, movement and the intended customer.
The agreed starting shape.
Proportion and component placement.
Movement, balance and dimensional relationships.
Details Keep Their Proportion
Pocket position, collar size and hood shape can look different as the body changes. Include those parts in the size-set discussion instead of treating them as fixed decorations. The garment should read as one design across the range.
Build a Grade Table by Measurement Point
A useful table lists the base value and the change for each adjacent size at every measurement point. Keep finished half-chest separate from full circumference and define where back length starts. The arithmetic then remains clear across the sample room, the buyer's fit review and finished-garment checks.
Where the measurement starts and ends.
Centimetres or inches used consistently.
The stated method for laying out the garment.
The agreed target and acceptance criteria.
Movement Completes the Fit Discussion
- For size-set review, Relia compares each sampled size with its own chart rather than only comparing size labels.
- Measure from consistent points with the garment in the same state.
- Review shoulder, armhole and sleeve movement on the intended wearers, then check that collars, pockets and front lengths still suit the proportions.
- Keep fit approval and approval of the size progression as two explicit decisions.
The Order Uses the Approved Size Version
Identify the latest chart, sample sizes and colour-size quantities together. If a fit change affects the range, update the relevant chart before the production plan is agreed. This keeps the order tied to the intended size set.
