Address Jacket Size Variation Before Choosing a New Factory
If jacket sizes have varied from what you expected, start with the measuring method and the garment version before selecting a new production brief. We can discuss the chart, sample and fit feedback together. This page explains how to separate inconsistent measurement, pattern differences and wearing-fit expectations so your next manufacturing enquiry identifies the result you need.
- Buyer problem
- Unexpected jacket size variation
- Review focus

- Key outcome
- An agreed measurable correction
A Fit Review Built on Consistent Measurements
Relia supports custom jacket sizing based on buyer-defined finished measurements. Relia connects the reported size issue with the relevant pattern and garment details, helping the sample review focus on an identifiable difference and a clear target.
Use the Same Start and End Points
Size variation can come from different measurement points, units, chart revisions or garment construction. Establish the measurement method before comparing readings from different teams. A half-chest taken at one height is not directly comparable with a reading taken elsewhere, and a relaxed sleeve should not be measured while stretched to make it match a target.
Link Measurement Differences with the Pattern Area
Relia reviews the chart and physical garment using the same start points, end points and fastening state. A chest measurement issue may involve body width, while limited arm movement can also involve the armhole and sleeve relationship. The intended lining and underlayer are included in the fit discussion. Pattern or grade changes are then reviewed on the sample rather than inferred from the size label alone.
Define units, garment state and the points used for each reported dimension.
Compare the actual garment with the intended chart and relevant pattern area.
Connect the correction with body, sleeve, armhole or grade relationships as required.
Check measurements and wearing fit separately against the agreed target.
Grading Is a Separate Part of the Brief
Identify the base size and increments by dimension. A consistent chest increment does not explain sleeve length, shoulder position or the complete size range.

Review the Sample on Your Intended Wearer
Use the planned adult wearer and underlayers for the fitting. Connect comments about comfort or proportion with the chart points that need adjustment.
Compare Like for Like
For an illustrative fit correction, use the same fastened state, flat surface, start point and units on the accepted sample and the garment being reviewed. Attach a photograph showing the tape placement. The comparison can then separate a measurement disagreement from a real pattern or construction difference.

Check the Detail Behind a Fit Comment
- Relia reviews the revised sample at the named measuring points and with the intended wearer.
- Compare the base and relevant size examples when the issue concerns grading.
- Record feedback by garment area and identify which chart revision has been accepted.
- That makes the next order a defined fit decision rather than a request to make the sizes generally more consistent.
Use the Current Chart for the Order
Keep the design, measuring method, tolerances and size allocation together. Discuss inspection arrangements, quantities and timing in the written order correspondence.
